Position
Within the Beams department (BE) , the Industrial Control Systems group (ICS) develops solutions and provides support for large and medium scale industrial control systems and promotes the use of industrial standard technologies. The group covers the domains of the experiments, the technical infrastructure and the accelerator chain.
Within this context the Tools and Middleware for Automation section (BE-ICS-TMA) provides critical utilities and services required for device and systems integration, verification and code generation.
We are looking for a talented and motivated engineer to join the team to help deliver high quality software and support to the CERN user community and beyond!
This position is dedicated to the UAB (UNICOS Application Builder) project, a tool used for automatic code generation of the control layer according to the UNICOS (UNified Industrial COntrol System) standard. UNICOS is a CERN-made framework used to develop industrial control applications, specifically focusing on the Supervision and Control layers of traditional control systems. UAB supports multiple PLC vendors (Schneider and Siemens), generates the object database for the supervision layer (WinCC OA), and integrates with the native applications of the PLC vendors.
As a Software Engineer in the UAB project, you will:
- Analyse the existing application and collaborate in the re-design and implementation of a new generation solution based on the most appropriate technologies;
- Gather requirements through discussions with expert users and develop the code to meet those requirements by extending and adapting the existing solution;
- Provide support to end-users addressing operational issues and feature requests.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
