We are a team of about 50 colleagues who work across the Cooking & Eating business. Together we focus on developing an excellent cooking & eating offer to enable a healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable life around food. For the many people and always with the low price in mind.
Job Description
We are now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to create and improve mechanical designs in our Cooking & Eating team. You will be expected to secure that our products are designed in an optimal way for an efficient production with low costs as well as with a strong focus on customer expectations. To achieve this, you will have close collaboration with many stakeholders throughout the value chain.
As our new Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
- Develop mechanical design of products with different materials and functions related to Cooking & Eating range, from concept sketch to final product.
- Develop and deploy innovative solutions and materials.
- Secure mechanical requirements by product design.
- Create, maintain, and develop 3D and 2D drawings in Solid Works according to IKEA CAD standard.
- Evaluate designs with FEM simulations together with our in-house FEA experts before testing on physical prototypes.
- Identify and evaluate product improvements.
Capture learnings, share knowledge, and communicate with other functions across the Range Area and other IKEA organizations.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are passionate about creating the best mechanical design solution for the customer at the right price, with the right quality, with beautiful design and with a clear focus on sustainability.
For this position we encourage applicants of all experience levels to apply for this. We do believe you have a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or have gained knowledge from experience.
You have an interest in cooking and eating and preferably some experience in product development.
You have knowledge in engineering activities such as 3D modelling, material selection, production techniques, design for manufacturing and product lifecycle management.
You have some knowledge/understanding of how to make use of and interpret FEM analysis.
For this position we highly value great communication skills and the ability to lead yourself to make things happen. To be successful, you also need to have both analytical and creative skills and the ability to transfer knowledge, concepts, and ideas into mechanical design solutions.
