The Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) of the University of Bern consists of 13 research programs with more than 100 research labs. Research at the DBMR encompasses virtually all bio-medical areas and allows and facilitates extensive interaction and collaboration between research labs, research programs and clinics.
Within the DBMR there are technical platforms available to all researchers, that are organized as core facilities with state-of-the-art instruments, services and support.
As of October 1st, 2024, or upon agreement the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Core Facility (FCCS CF) of the DBMR is looking for a motivated biomedical laboratory technician/scientist with pertinent knowledge in flow cytometry to strengthen the small team of this exciting and scientifically eclectic core facility.
Flow Cytometry Specialist
In this position you will be trained to operate cell sorters to conduct cell sorting for our users and assist them in performing cell sorting experiments. (ca. 40%)
You are responsible for QC and user support for one of our user-operated flow cytometers. (ap-prox. 15%)
Your knowledge and expertise will allow you to support our users regarding setup and optimization of protocols and methods (e.g., antibody panel design and fluorophore selection) as well as high-dimensional data analyses. (ca. 10%)
With your scientific background and flow cytometry expertise, you will take over yet to be defined parts of our recurrent and modular FACS course. (10-20%)

Flow Cytometry Specialist
Tasks
- Flow cytometry-specific scientific, methodological and technical support of FCCS CF users, including high-dimensional data analyses.
- Operation of (spectral) flow cytometers including cell sorters.
- Preparation and presentation of recurrent FACS course modules as well as coaching par-ticipants during practical sessions therein.
- Participation at seminars and meetings for further education and presentations for FCCS CF representation.
We are seeking a highly motivated person, eager to learn on the job, with teamwork and commu-nication skills as well as with a flair for networking and interacting in the scientific community.
Requirements
- Master or PhD in natural sciences or laboratory technician with a strong biomedical scien-tific background and corresponding experience.
- Advanced experience with flow cytometry.
- Good laboratory, scientific and social (customer care) conduct.
- Good command of English (B2 or higher).
- Interest and experience in bioinformatics are a plus.
