ROLE DESCRIPTION
As Senior Analyst Maintenance Operation River, you will be part of the Technical Operations Department that oversees Maintenance & Repair Operations for Viking’s fleet of 80+ river ships. You will report to the Director of Technical Supply Chain & Planning and work closely with the technical department leadership team and other key leaders in the company.
Working in operations, your work will involve virtually every aspect of the technical management of our river fleet with the overall objective of improving Viking River Cruises' performance and our guests’ experience. You will drive projects to maximize our operational effectiveness, reduce costs and equipment downtime, improve our supply chain and procurement operations, and improve our software tools and systems.
You will provide executives with periodic reporting and key analytical and business insights obtained through in-depth analysis to enable solid, fact-based business decisions. You will also be responsible for supporting the implementation of these insights to transform the business.
The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, but it requires travel about 10-20% of your time to our Service Hubs, shipyards, and docking stations all over Europe and Egypt.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Budget definition and reporting
• Manage and publish periodic reports related to cost and other relevant operational metrics.
• Support developing and tracking the Maintenance & Repair (M&R) budget.
Data analysis and process review
• Take responsibility for identifying information sources, gathering and interpreting data, and presenting findings to the maintenance and procurement teams.
• Develop and communicate comprehensive analysis to support strategic decision-making, either through data from Vikings ERP systems or on-site observations onboard Vikings vessels or maintenance service hubs.
• Lead recurrent analyses on vendor portfolio optimization.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance in the M&R department, focusing on service contracts and spare parts management.
• Provide root cause analysis and data-driven insights to support identified opportunities.
• Create executive-level reports on initiatives derived from data analysis.
• Analyze processes to identify inefficiencies, proposing adjustments to enhance cost savings and operational agility.
Project Management – Maintenance software implementation
• Ensure the software vendor understands and correctly implements maintenance and purchasing processes.
• Act as the vendor's single point of contact, providing necessary information and support to facilitate successful implementation.
• Monitor project timelines, report on the implementation status, and ensure deadlines are met.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Education and professional experience
• Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least 2-3 years of job experience after graduation.
• Analytical experience in the hospitality industry (Travel, Leisure, Hotels, and Catering) or a leading management or operations consulting firm.
Analytical and project management skills
• Strong analytical and modeling skillset with the ability to interpret data, analyze trends, and make strategic recommendations.
• Experience in project management and software implementation.
Soft skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to communicate complex information in a clear, top-down manner.
• Strong logical mindset with good written and oral communication skills.
Other skills and requirements
• Ability to work independently and prioritize allocation of time across multiple projects.
• Language skills:
- Business-level English proficiency (oral and written).
- German language knowledge is a plus.
• Professional skills in PowerPoint, Power BI, and Excel.
• Knowledge of SQL and understanding of databases is a plus.
