Within the Light Weight Design LWD group at the Institute of Mechanical Systems IMES, you will continue to expand our activities in applied research and teaching, helping to shape the highly resilient and sustainable light-weight structures of tomorrow.
School: School of Engineering
Starting date: February 1st 2025 or as per agreement
- Design and implementation of courses in the basic and advanced modules of engineering mechanics at bachelor level and involvement in the further development of the curricula
- Independent acquisition, processing and management of R&D projects including responsibility for results
- Expansion and further development of the competencies in the LWD group within the framework of the IMES strategy
- Active participation in the management of the LWD Group as a member of the management team
- University degree in engineering or natural sciences (ETH, TH, TU, FH) with a focus on engineering mechanics (statics, strength of materials, kinematics/kinetics, numerical methods, lightweight structures or similar)
- Doctorate, preferably with reference to engineering mechanics
- Several years of experience, ideally in the railway vehicle industry or alternatively in the automotive or aero-space industry with issues of strength, dynamics, crash, etc. or generally in the design of highly loaded, highly dynamic or safety-relevant structures
- Experience and pleasure in the successful and independent acquisition of larger and complex, also interdis-ciplinary research projects as well as their technical and commercial management
- Existence of an active network in the Swiss industry
- Mastery of the German language at such a level that lectures can be held in German

The Institute of Mechanical Systems (IMES) deals with highly loaded structures in three main areas, the main area Lightweight Design (LWD) especially with the structural mechanics of aircraft and railway vehicles as well as highly dynamic loaded structures.
The core competencies are the development of weight-optimised structures using numerical methods such as FEM and FSI, explicit FEM simulation with various hydrocodes, multi-physical optimisation as well as design and prototype construction.
