Tax Operations Senior Analyst
We are seeking a skilled Tax Operations Analyst to join our global Wealth Client Tax Operations team in Zurich, Switzerland. This role is critical for maintaining and advancing client tax operations in Swiss withholding Taxes, FTT, VAT and GST, particularly within Switzerland. The successful candidate will conduct in-depth analysis of complex global client booking models, perform reconciliations, identify operational risks, and ensure compliance with local tax regulations.
Citi Wealth Client Tax Operations Senior Analyst is an individual contributor role responsible for ensuring complete, accurate and timely payments & tax form filing to local tax authorities.
This position also requires interaction with government tax authorities and external stakeholders, making it essential to have a seasoned professional in this role across international clusters.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare non-US tax reports covering multiple jurisdictions and products, including quarterly reconciliations and Swiss withholding taxes (e.g., Swiss FTT Form 9, Local withholding, and VAT).
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, including the preparation of account reconciliations for revenues and VAT/GST tax accounts for all legal vehicles within Citi Wealth International clusters.
- Manage critical tax-related issues & remediation activities impacting clients and business stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and regulatory compliance.
- Provide leadership and tax SME expertise to the Client Tax Operations team in Poland and India by quickly acquiring Citi's institutional knowledge to understand business segments and legal entities.
- Support additional regulatory tax reporting such as U.S. Qualified Intermediary, FATCA, and Automatic Exchange of Information (CRS Reporting).
- Provide first-level support for inquiries from client advisors regarding the Tax Reclaim Service and handle the preparation and transmission of data files to custodians.
- Support the global implementation of GST/VAT regulations while contributing to strategic tax programs and technical implementations.
- Analyze tax transaction withholding processes from front to back and implement operational changes arising from process remediations or enhancements in collaboration with Business Change management & Technology partners.
- Develop business requirements for system-related enhancements and manage the end-to-end implementation of new or amended taxes.
- Streamline process inconsistencies, mitigate risks, and maintain comprehensive process documentation, ensuring knowledge sharing across the team for effective tax operations and control functions.
Qualifications:
- A good track record of experience in a tax-related area and good understanding of tax reporting and operational tax processes.
- Knowledge about the Double Tax Treaty Agreements, International Taxation, Custody Operations, Relief at source and reclaim.
- Experience in Tax Operations (Direct/Indirect Tax, Withholding TAX, Goods and Services Tax, Trading Tax etc.)
- Experience in International Taxation and Tax Treaty is an added advantage.
- Deep understanding of Swiss tax laws and regulations, particularly VAT and GST. Knowledge of US Tax reporting FATCA, US1099 and CRS regulation is a plus.
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills with experience in continuously following up with various stakeholders and execution teams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct detailed analyses of complex tax processes.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in compliance with Swiss client data privacy laws.
Education & Skills:
- Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience, preferably in finance and banking
- Fluent English: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in a concise and coherent manner with international clients and bankers. German speaking is an added plus.
- Proficiency in tax software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
