In this position you will support or own the prototype fabrication, development, implementation, and integration of the electro mechanical aspects of key robotic surgical instruments. You will be a vital member of a product development team, collaborating with other design engineers, manufacturing engineers, designers, and multi-functional partners.
For Robotic Surgery, this represents an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is excited by building groundbreaking surgical capabilities. You will be contributing technical design and development across advanced sensing, communications, and system controls through applications of electrical / electro-mechanical technologies. This position supports our critical enabling technology programs and will work closely with our internal R&D teams and with external development partners as well.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and manage electrical & mechanical prototype fabrication supporting a portfolio of robotic instruments and accessories.
- Operate in a multidimensional organization and partner with R&D design engineers to ensure product design integrity and DFM/DFA.
- Provide 3D CAD models and drawings of concepts, prototypes, engineering builds, and version control models and drawings in a PDM application.
- Work with our Supply Base to provide a reliable and robust supply of electrical components, and sub-assemblies, that meet established cost, quality, and performance requirements.
- Work with multi-functional research and development teams, internal and external business partners.
- Provide project planning input, design support, process development knowledge, and qualification / validation / stabilization execution.
- Applying prior work experience, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) techniques, Lean Six Sigma process knowledge, and the Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) tool to drive the product fabrication to its most efficient outcome.
- Work with external manufacturing processes that could possibly include: Box build, SMT, BGA/PGA, device packaging, micro-electronics, motors, gearboxes, mechanical assemblies, injection molding, machining, MIM, wire harnesses, power supplies, displays, PCBA's, rigid/flex circuits, EPROM's, ASIC’s, transducers, software validation, HiPot testing and in-circuit testing.
