Tasks

We are seeking a solution-oriented Senior Data Engineer to join our digitalization team. The ideal candidate is an enthusiast designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data pipelines to provide the foundation for data-driven applications. Also, has strong project manager, analytics, communication, and collaboration skills. The role involves working within a team located in Allschwil and collaborating with associations, institutes, and universities.

As part of the digitalization initiatives, you will define the interfaces to surrounding data pools and software to data processing. Your strong analytical skills as well as your experience in this field will come into full play when transporting, understanding, and aggregating data. Other core topics include:
  • Collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including IT corporate, product managers, end customers and suppliers to define product needs, driving the data strategy to create value out of it.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are met on time within the budget.
  • Engineer reliable data pipelines for sourcing, processing, distributing, and storing data.
  • Develop and see through solutions End to End.
  • Design scalability tools that can support ever growing data volumes.
  • Contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle.
  • Design, implement and maintain new and existing data-driven applications.
  • Provide technical expertise, recommendations, and innovative solutions.
  • Work collaboratively alongside the R&D team and IT.
  • Share expertise and best practice with colleagues and contribute regularly to our engineering culture.
You continuously coordinate with the knowledge carriers and provide support for the introduction of the technologies into new products and business models:
  • Support local data preparation and data coding.
  • Support full-stack web, mobile development.
  • Support and collaboration on existing and new content systems.
  • Support and collaboration in cloud development.

Profile
  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience in computer science, or another IT-related technical field, with experience in data engineering (5+ years).
  • Experience in project management (+3 years) based on data and networking on digital ecosystem.
  • Experience with Big Data, Data Warehouse and Data Lake.
  • Proven ability in setting up and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, ensuring streamlined development cycles and deployment processes.
  • Hands-on experience building scalable data pipelines, processing high volume data in batch as well stream for near real-time analytics.
  • Experience with Data Bricks, Python, Spark, Delta Lake, Azure Analytics Synapse, DLT, Unix/Linux and Shell Scripting.
  • Experience in database development (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, CosmosDB) is desirable.
  • Experience with Cloud technologies (Azure mainly, and others).
  • Strong experience designing applications (Object oriented design, Design patterns).
  • Proficient in using version control systems, particularly Git, to maintain source code and track changes collaboratively.
  • Expertise building automated functional tests (TDD, BDD) using industry standard tools.
  • Fluent English and German skills are needed.
