OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Compensation Manager offers comprehensive compensation expertise and guidance to Human Resources and designated business functions, overseeing the design and implementation of compensation programs including base pay, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, pay equity, and alternative reward programs.
They are responsible for delivering compensation services to client groups, which encompass job evaluations, career path development, salary, and incentive planning and administration.
The Senior Compensation Manager leads the definition, implementation, and oversight of compensation strategies, programs, and initiatives to maintain a competitive market position. They effectively communicate the compensation philosophy and provide expert counsel to executives, managers, and employees.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide consultative guidance on compensation policies, programs, and practices to functional areas.
- Partner with internal clients to drive compensation initiatives aligned with business and functional strategies.
- Offer confidential counsel to HR, executives, managers, and employees on compensation matters.
- Lead compensation processes and analyses, including job evaluations, market pricing, salary range development, career path development, pay equity, and salary planning.
- Oversee salary recommendations for promotions, merit increases, and equity adjustments, ensuring alignment with budgetary guidelines.
- Lead annual salary planning and short-term incentive compensation processes.
- Serve as project lead on compensation programs and initiatives, ensuring competitive advantage in the marketplace.
- Participate in the design, development, and ongoing evaluation of compensation programs, including base pay, variable pay, recognition programs, and pay equity.
- Act as an internal subject matter expert on compensation issues, guiding HR colleagues, managers, and employees on market practices and compensation methodologies.
- Develop compensation recommendations in compliance with US FLSA, Sarbanes-Oxley, AAP/OFCCP, and other international regulatory requirements.
- Monitor ongoing compliance with local, state/province, federal, and international compensation laws.
- Lead the selection, interpretation, and analysis of market data for integration into compensation systems.
- Develop and deliver communication and training materials to provide clear compensation guidance and support.
- Identify organizational needs and provide compensation expertise on cross-functional teams impacting the organization.
- Conduct research on compensation policies, practices, trends, and technology, providing analysis and recommendations to maintain competitive positioning in the labor market.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor's or higher degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least 6 years of professional-level compensation experience in the design and administration of compensation programs.
- International and/or executive compensation experience preferred.
- Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and HRIS required; experience with Workday and MarketPay highly desired.
- Knowledge of laws governing compensation practices required. Knowledge of provincial and/or international laws governing compensation practices highly desired.
- Knowledge of FLSA classification, job evaluation, compensation administration, and statistical analysis methodologies required.
- Pharmaceutical experience preferred.
- Excellent prioritization and organization skills.
- Excellent, confident interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative style and approach with superior business partnering skills and the ability to influence/negotiate.
- High attention to detail and accuracy coupled with the ability to comprehend the big business picture.
- Ability to identify and solve problems through creativity, sound compensation principles, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong project/process management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Ability to be self-directed and work independently.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- CCP (Certified Compensation Professional designation) preferred
