You will join Roche’s Institute of Human Biology, an organization within pRED whose goal is to harness and advance the use of human model systems in drug discovery and development, as well as personalized medicine. Our interdisciplinary research bridges academic and pharmaceutical research, connecting biologists, engineers, and data scientists.

We partner and collaborate with leading scientific institutions worldwide to tackle grand challenges by assembling, funding, and leading interdisciplinary teams of experts to work on highly ambitious and complex scientific questions.

Job Mission

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join the Institute of Human Biology and contribute to our mission to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process by advancing more predictive human model systems. You will be responsible for setting up and executing automated pipelines for the generation of genetically engineered organoid models. These models will support different projects within both the IHB and pRED. You will contribute to the application of state-of-the-art CRISPR-tools in these model systems.

In this role, you will:

• Employ CRISPR/Cas9 techniques to engineer organoid cultures for disease modeling and identification of novel drug targets

• Collaborate with scientists within the IHB and pRED to develop cutting edge genetic engineering technologies in human model systems

• Optimize and automate gene editing strategies in novel human model systems in collaboration with IHB and pRED colleagues

• Supervise students or train scientists when required

• Contribution to high quality results for peer-reviewed publications

Additionally, you have:

• At least 2 years of experience in a research lab and an M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in stem cell biology or a related scientific field.

• Extensive experience with CRISPR/Cas9 - mediated gene engineering.

• Extensive experience with handling adult organoid models and genetic modifications thereof. Experience with iPSCs is a strong asset.

• Extensive experience in the automatization of organoid cultures, including their culture.

• Experience in an organoid engineering facility is a strong asset

• You possess scientific and intellectual curiosity and are willing to learn and apply innovative research tools.

• Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment to science and work well within a group.

• Ability to work independently, quickly set up effective networks and working relationships

The preferred start date of the position is October 2024, or upon availability. This is a temporary position with a duration of 2 years.
