You will work on basic science projects as well as on applied research projects funded by InnoSuisse. You'll investigate aging mechanisms in electrical contact materials with cutting edge analytical techniques such as scanning and transmission electron microscopy, atom probe tomography, or scanning probe microscopy. You'll also exploit in situ scanning electron microscopy based micromechanical testing under extreme conditions (variable temperature, high strain rate, humidity, combined electrical and mechanical loading). You must hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar. A high level of motivation to work in close collaboration with industry, experimentalists and an international, multidisciplinary research team is essential. Experience in analytical techniques such as electron microscopy is desirable.
