Graphic design, illustration, and video editing freelancers

Scope of Work

We are looking for freelance graphic designers, illustrators, and video editors to assist our in-house graphic design and publishing team.

We support the work of about 200 researchers by creating a range of communications and publishing outputs, including research reports, policy briefs, brochures, videos, infographics, social media assets, annual reports, logos, presentations, and web stories applying various IISD and IISD initiative style guides.

Graphic Designers

Role:

• Design research reports and policy briefs in InDesign using pre-designed templates.
• Design charts and figures in keeping with information design best practices.
• Design brochures, posters, and social media assets.
• Provide expert guidance while working with IISD staff in a collaborative, cooperative, and flexible manner.

Requirements:

• Closely follow brand style guides for IISD and IISD initiatives.
• Ability to start projects on short notice (i.e., within a couple of days).
• Access to Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
• Manage deadlines to ensure projects are completed successfully and efficiently to meet the deliverable requirements and timelines.
• Potential to be on retainer in particularly busy months.
• Share final design files with IISD.

Illustrators

Role:

• Design infographics with custom illustrations.
• Create custom illustrations for use on other projects.
• Illustration style should match IISD’s established look: vector, simplified but realistic, with clean edges.
• Provide expert guidance while working with IISD staff in a collaborative, cooperative, and flexible manner.

Requirements:

• Curious and committed to showing diversity and context-appropriate imagery.
• Closely follow brand style guides. We have many sub-brands with slight variations.
• Ability to start projects on short notice (i.e., within a couple of days).
• Manage deadlines to ensure projects are completed successfully and efficiently to meet the deliverable requirements and timelines.
• Share final design files with IISD.

Video Editors

Role:

• Edit social media videos consisting of talking heads, stock footage, lightly animated on-screen text, and/or narration using IISD branded templates in Adobe AfterEffects and PremierePro.
• Find relevant and context-appropriate stock footage to supplement videos.
• Provide expert guidance while working with IISD staff in a collaborative, cooperative, and flexible manner.

Requirements:

• Ability to start projects on short notice (i.e., within a couple of days).
• Access to Adobe PremierePro, AfterEffects, and Illustrator.
• Manage deadlines to ensure projects are completed successfully and efficiently to meet the deliverable requirements and timelines.
• Share final design files with IISD

Other information

• Location: Remote. Canada
