We are a Startup located in the center of Zürich that builds underwater drones. Our field of expertise is the development of highly integrated compact systems tailored to the challenges of turbid waters with high currents and complex environments – a distinction that designates us as pioneers in the underwater landscape. 

From facilitating search and rescue missions to transformational advancements in industrial inspection, our technology pushes the boundaries of what is possible beneath the waves. We are supported by the Wyss Zurich Translational Center (Wyss Zürich), a unique accelerator program, which is embedded into ETH Zürich and University of Zürich and addresses the booming fields of regenerative medicine, robotics, and medical devices/bionic technologies.

Job description

As a field engineer at Tethys Robotics, you work tightly with R&D and our external partners. You will analyze, test, and improve our system on all levels for all conditions with methods you develop. Doing so, you will master our robots, understand the technology that makes us unique and present this to our partners and customers worldwide.

In your role you are responsible for the following tasks: 

  • Field testing the newest features and developing test methods to support reaching product readiness by piloting and experiments 
  • Performing demos and trainings of our robot with partners and customers in all waters in Switzerland and abroad 
  • Performing external service jobs with the drone, by piloting, collecting data and creating reports 
  • Creation of manuals and guides to the robot 
  • Close collaboration with R&D in system data analysis and system evaluation for quality management 
Profile
  • Education: Technical background (BSc, MSc) in Mechanical-, or Electrical engineering, Computer Science, Physics or similar 
  • Travelling: Open to travel. Global. On short notice, 1-3 days, ~1x per month 
  • Practical Experience:
  • Sensor & system data analysis 
  • System testing
  • Quality Management 
  • Customer relations & sales 
  • Teamwork: A team-player that flourishes in a fast-pace ever-changing startup environment 
  • Personality: Charismatic engineer 
  • Traits: Waterproof on land and at sea 
  • Demeanor: Attentive and patient interaction with customers and retaining the joy of teaching under pressure and in stressful conditions 
  • Independence: Ability to work independently and deliver exact and high-quality results 
  • Pragmatism: A pragmatic and solution-oriented approach to work
  • Languages: Business fluent in written and spoken German and English.
  • Technical: Programming skills in Python and proficient with Unix 

desired qualifications and experience: 

  • Proficiency in an additional language to German and English (e.g. French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese) 
  • Experience in projects with ROS 
  • Experience with Game Engineers / C# / Unity 
  • Experience in piloting of drones
