Revolutionize Epilepsy Treatment With Cutting-Edge SEEG Device Development

Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent neurological disorders that affects about 50 million people (WHO). Around one-third of epilepsy patients experience drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE), meaning that their condition cannot be effectively managed through medication alone. For these patients, surgical intervention is often the only viable option. Our client, DIXI medical, is a subsidiary of the family-owned DIXI group, headquartered in Switzerland. They have been at the forefront of stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) development since the 1970s. SEEG is a minimally invasive neurosurgical technique that involves implanting intracranial electrodes into specific brain areas to record electrical activity and identify epileptic foci in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. Data gathered through SEEG aids in refining diagnoses, planning treatment options, and guiding surgical interventions for epilepsy management. To complete their R&D team, our client is looking for a technically passionate expert in micro-mechanics to become their future

R&D Engineer, Neurotechnology

In this position based in the Neuchâtel area, you will be part of their R&D team and report directly to the VP of R&D. Your main responsibilities will be to design and develop the next generation of their Nanodeep's SEEG electrodes and help bring them through the FDA approval, in collaboration with industrialization and production teams. You will also help them to improve existing generations of electrodes. As those devices are highly integrated and very demanding in terms of micromechanics, you will act as the technical expert to design new, best-in-class miniaturized medical devices. You will work independently but you will also instruct, supervise and mentor other future R&D engineers, striving for excellence for both the individuals and the team.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop the next generation of SEEG electrodes, from feasibility to design freeze
  • Bring innovation in technical problem-solving to meet or exceed product expectations
  • Create new / non-existing knowledge to solve technical problems in order to meet or exceed product expectations
  • Test, improve and optimize design to reach product specifications, ensure safety, performance and manufacturability
  • Define micro-mechanical systems specifications, draw plans and contribute to associated testing plan
  • Establish parts specifications, assembly instructions, production and testing processes
  • Conduct the micro-mechanical systems risk analysis, both on design and process
  • Collaborate with industrialization and production teams and help them to improve existing generations of electrodes
  • Participate in manufacturing processes validation
  • Partner closely with other team members to successfully bring prototypes to clinical study and FDA clearance

Your profile

  • Master degree in microengineering
  • Minimum 5-10 years of R&D experience in micro-mechanical systems, ideally in medical devices
  • Fluency in French and English
  • Strong experience in microengineering production techniques and automation
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Experience in micro-gluing, glue injection, electronic microfabrication and PCB folding processes
  • You are very focused on technical tasks and very hands-on. You are passionate and curious about techniques and new technologies. You are able to innovate and create new or non-existent knowledge to solve technical issues. You have strong organizational and time management skills, focused on objectives. You demonstrate abilities to work very independently within a fast-paced start-up environment

Your benefits

  • Cutting-edge innovation in SEEG and direct impact on epilepsy treatment, improving patient's health
  • International, dynamic and family working environment
  • Autonomy and responsibility – you act as technical expert in microengineering for the company
  • Competitive salary and attractive social conditions
