Biomedical Engineer (f/m/d)

The hallmark of our research is the development of new techniques to assess the impact of airway disease and environmental factors on lung function and lung development in neonates and children.

What you can expect

  • Coordinate the Nested Project 3 of the SwissPedHealth National Data Stream: collaborate with clinical data warehouses, lung function services and other hospitals to build the infrastructure allowing the transfer of clinical lung function data to the data centers and to a centralized national database (https://www.swisspedhealth.ch/nested_project_3.html)
  • Build automated quality control algorithms for lung function measurements
  • Maintain and improve existing research software and develop and test new research tools for analysis
  • Analyze (third-parties) data with existing analysis tools
  • Document newly developed analysis methods and write manuals for new software applications
  • Collaborate and work with PhD students, medical doctors and study nurses

Your Profile

  • Master degree or PhD in (life science) engineering, computer science, physics or equivalent
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and/or Matlab
  • Proficient in signal processing
  • Experience with databases and SQL
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary research group and to take the main responsibility for technical aspects
  • Fluent in English and preferably in German
Soft skills/bonus
  • Diligent, well-organized, proactive, team worker and able to work independently
  • Knowledge of clinical environment and/or data quality control
  • Knowledge of spectroscopy and molar mass sensors
  • Knowledge of lung function tests like Spirometry and Multiple Breath Washout (MBW)
