Responsible to help lead the site Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Program to ensure a high level of EHS performance for the site. Provide technical expertise for EHS&S programs, which may include risk management, management of change, lab safety, machine safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and emergency preparedness. This position will also be the responsible site lead for the Biosafety/Biorisk Program ensuring it meets industry standards and regulatory and company requirements. Under the direction of the EHS Manager, the candidate will support all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Management Program at the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine site in San Diego, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as site Biosafety Officer and the administrator of the Biosafety and Biorisk Safety Program guiding in laboratory design, operation, and standard processes. Evaluates and approves the safety aspects of specific laboratory activities involving biological agents.
- Manage biological agent and biological toxin site registry and inventory which includes relevant regulatory permits.
- Evaluate, plan, implement, and assist personnel to advance the site EHS programs, in a highly technical laboratory environment which includes, but not limited to, chemical, radioactive, and biological safety.
- Support site construction projects (e.g., planning, design, implementation) which will enhance the safety program.
- Provide EHS generalist support to the business as part of a team delivering technical advice and support in training, risk assessment, incident investigation, projects, new products and processes, management monitoring, among others.
- Perform routine EHS assessments using the J&J Comprehensive Audit and Self Assessments to identify program deficiencies and areas of risk. Participate or lead incident investigations for all reported injuries and near misses.
- Monitor and evaluate EHS risks of site operations, including change management, ensuring continuous improvement of the EHS program to make it leaner and more efficient.
- Provides site leadership recommendations to environmental, health and safety regulations identifying the impacts of changes to regulations on key business objectives, especially in biosafety/biorisk.
