The Translational Cardiology Research Group is located at the Department of Biomedicine. The research group focuses on the autonomic nervous system and inter-organ crosstalk in the context of cardiovascular disease. Together with his team, Prof. Mahfoud is investigating how the modulation of autonomic function can prevent cardiovascular complications such as high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure.
- Independent application of various molecular biological (RT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA) and histological techniques
- Microscopy and image analysis
- Experimental animal work including organ removal, injections and cardiovascular surgeries
- Optional: cell culture work and flow cytometry sample preparation
- Processing of biological samples from clinical studies
- Development and establishment of new experimental techniques
- Completed training as a BTA/MTA or BSc/MSc in biology/biochemistry or similar medical/scientific professional fields
- Interest in the entire spectrum of basic cardiovascular research
- Practical experience in handling laboratory animals and corresponding certificate of competence for animal experimentation (FELASA Level B (LTK1)), ideally knowledge of cardiovascular operations (LAD ligation, telemetry)
- Experience in performing cell culture/cell isolation procedures/flow cytometry is an advantage, but not a requirement
- Ability to work independently and accurately, high level of communication skills and flexibility
- Very good knowledge of written and spoken English, good knowledge of German is an advantage
