Trainee in Finie Element Simulations of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells
The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
For the Fuel Cell Systems and Diagnostics group in the Electrochemistry Laboratory we are looking for a
Your tasks
Your work will focus on the understanding of the sensitivity and localization of non-invasive impedance measurement approach for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells stacks by means of finite element simulation. During your internship, you will interact with your colleagues within the group and within the electrochemistry laboratory.
- Setup and run simulations with a FEM simulation package within Matlab
- Parametric studies of conductivity variations for different stack geometries
- Analyse, visualize and summarize the simulation results
- Verify simulation results with measurement data
Your profile
- You are an undergraduate student (BSc or MSc) in physics, mathematics, computational science, electrical or mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline
- Preferably with experience in finite element simulation, CAD and Matlab or Python
- You have an active interest in numerical simulation, data analysis and visualization
- You take the initiative for new solutions; being able to work independently in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research team
- Good communication and writing skills in English
- You have not yet completed your Master’s thesis
