Senior Systems Engineer Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join EPAM and support our client from the financial services area in their office in Zurich.
The ideal candidate will be working on an investment platform, which is a strategic solution for investment products and client portfolio management in Switzerland, EMEA and APAC. The system is a multi-tier resilient enterprise cluster implemented with a mix of open source, vendor and client proprietary technologies. 15+ applications are based on a platform that includes technologies like RHEL, Spring Stack, Container Runtime, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Ignite, Oracle, Ansible, Eclipse RCP, React, Angular, and Prometheus/Grafana.

Responsibilities
- Work closely with technical experts, architects and business teams to align technical solutions with functional requirements and strategic initiatives
- Maintain and upgrade existing Platform OS integration components
- Enhance existing Platform service implementations
- Contribute to the Platform Modernization
- Analyse outages and defective states, initiate and monitor measures to remedy them (3rd level support)
- Perform installation on test environments and manage installation orders to production
- Provide consultancy and support to the project team with regards to technical questions
- Maintain documentation relevant to operations (operation manual, installation guide, etc.) and share your knowledge among the team
Requirements
- Ideally 5+ years of experience in a similar position focused on maintaining environments hosted in Linux operating systems
- Broad technical skillset including deep knowledge of Linux operating systems as well as hands-on working knowledge of Java, Apache web server and Tomcat, Kafka
- Experience scripting in one or more of the following languages: Perl, Python, Bash
- Detailed understanding and experience working with DevOps pipelines and hands-on expertise with configuration management tools
- Experience with Agile methodologies
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to independently analyze and address issues in time sensitive situations
- Good understanding of web application architecture
- Good DevOps skills, package creation and deployment
- Basic networking knowledge (need to know a bit about firewall rules)
- Proficient communication skills in English are a must, while knowledge of the German language is a significant advantage
Nice to have
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernets, Ansible, Gitlab-CI
- Database knowledge (Oracle preferable, MSSQL would be an advantage)
- Java programming knowledge
- Azure cloud experience
