Senior Analyst -Commodities

As Senior Analyst Commodities, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that The Hershey Company has the most accurate and up-to-date information, and analysis of that data, to ensure that the cocoa strategy decision making, is made with the highest objectivity. Your input to the Cocoa Procurement team will be important, not just in terms of risk management, but will contribute to the redistribution of cocoa volumes to suppliers and origins based on Hershey’s Sustainability requirements. Working under the supervision of the Director Procurement, Commodities, the job holder will continuously communicate with senior management and will drive competitive advantage for HersheyAs Senior Analyst Commodities, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that The Hershey Company has the most accurate and up-to-date information, and analysis of that data, to ensure that the cocoa strategy decision making, is made with the highest objectivity. Summary of major duties:

Data Collection and Analysis:

Collate, prepare and analyse for presentation to various Senior leaders:

  • Cocoa production metrics (arrivals, purchases, exports/imports etc)
  • Cocoa demand metrics (grinds, various consumption data, visible/invisible inventories)

Crop Forecasting:

  • Manage, monitor and present pod-count and weather data for various cocoa producing origins. Participate in regular pod-counting tours in origin to ensure data collection integrity.
  • Set up tools to forecast crops in major origins to support hedging decisions. Connect with service providers in origin countries to gather field intelligence for analysis.

Networking:

  • Represent Hershey Cocoa Procurement in ongoing digital transformation projects.
  • Implement and maintain regular fora for communicating with a select group of stakeholders, within the commodities and leadership teams.
  • Build and maintain networks for data gathering amongst, suppliers, independent analysts and cocoa producing origins.
  • Build up knowledge and develop expertise in the dynamic soft commodity market of cocoa. Be eager to get exposure, build a network with internal and external stakeholders and dare to question the status quo of working

Cocoa Sustainability:

  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure Hershey has complete and prompt knowledge about bean origin and traceability.
  • Collate and transmit accurate data to the Cocoa Sustainability and ESG teams at regular defined intervals, as well as ad hoc requests
  • As the owner of all Cocoa Sustainability and Traceability data the Senior Analyst is the main point of contact for inquiries from commercial, financial and sustainability stakeholders. This includes owning volume, cost, certification and cover information for the entire Hershey organization with regards to cocoa.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance or related field of study

Experience:

  • 1-5 years of experience in commodities or a commodities related field
  • Strong data processing skills and the ability to make cogent and strong arguments defending not only the data, but the analysis of same
  • Interest in commodity markets; knowledge of associated terminology is an advantage
  • High self-confidence level, high motivation and the ability to challenge and be challenged on data generated
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, esp.PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work well in a team and adapt to change
  • SAP knowledge is a benefit
  • Fluent written and spoken English; spoken French is an advantag
