The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), University of Bern, Switzerland performs research in a range of disciplines relevant to public health (www.ispm.unibe.ch). Groups cut across divisions, facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to research in the fields of clinical epidemiology, social and behavioral health, biostatistics, and global and environmental health.
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic biostatistician to join the Sexual and Reproductive Health Research Group, led by Prof. Dr. med. Nicola Low. We conduct epidemiological research about sexually transmitted infections, emerging infectious disease threats and the intersection between these two areas. Our studies involve a range of study designs, including cross-sectional and cohort studies, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analysis and mathematical modelling. Current studies include investigations of the epidemiology and control of human mpox (formerly monkeypox), sexually transmitted infections in pregnancy and associated outcomes, antimicrobial-resistant gonorrhoea, human papillomavirus infections among women living with HIV and estimating the burden of sexually transmitted infections. We collaborate nationally and internationally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Postdoctoral biostatistician in infectious disease epidemiology
Duties and responsibilities: You will contribute your statistical expertise to the design, planning and conduct of studies employing a range of study designs. You will write statistical analysis plans, abstracts and manuscripts for publication and presentation at scientific meetings. You will also contribute to training and capacity-building for statisticians in low- and middle-income settings.
- PhD in biostatistics, mathematics, computational biology, or a relevant discipline;
- Experience with the planning, conduct and reporting of statistical analyses for a variety of study designs relevant to infectious disease epidemiology;
- Experience of participation in projects conducted in low- and middle-income country settings is an advantage;
- Strong programming skills in R and/or Stata;
- Excellent knowledge of English essential; good knowledge of German and/or French is an advantage;
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and commitment to open science and open access.
