DevOps Engineer (80-100% - all genders)

With innovative IT services, secure infrastructures, expert advice, and the networking of relevant specialist communities, we help our customers effectively and efficiently use the opportunities offered by digitisation.
Our Switch Cloud Portal team is a dynamic (think start-up) group working across several domains of the Switch Cloud value stream; mainly, we develop web applications in Ruby on Rails to help customers manage their slice of the cloud and their services and co-create with them the cloud's user experience and product vision.
Our team consists of 8 talented professionals: A DevOps Engineer and Product Owner, six Full Stack Engineers, including three long-term externals and one Billing Specialist.
Our customer demand for our existing cloud services has continuously grown in recent years, leading us to build and provide new cloud infrastructure with modernised hardware and services, which is why we are seeking a dedicated DevOps Engineer with experience in web development processes to join our team and help us with maintaining our application development platform, increasing our expertise in DevOps practices and driving our infrastructure as code initiatives.
DevOps Engineer (80-100% - all genders)
Your main tasks are
- You contribute to the development of Switch's new research cloud for customers in the education, research and innovation community.
- Within our team you develop and operate the Switch Cloud Portal application and optimise our development and operation workflows.
- You work on improving our cloud solutions, in particular the portal and billing services, and related tooling to ensure operational excellence.
- You collect customer's feedback and translate it into product and UX requirements.
- You identify, analyse and solve problems, in collaboration with the team, as well as coordinate adjustments and initiatives to ensure a seamless change management process.
- You participate in 2nd/3rd level support and iteratively improve the products based on direct customer feedback.
What you bring
- A university degree in computer science or comparable qualifications as well as good expertise in DevOps engineering.
- 2+ years of practical experience in a web development and/or cloud computing focussed area.
- Good communication, teamwork, active participation, commitment to continuous improvement, and feedback skills.
- Proficiency in English is a must. Additional knowledge of German (preferred), French or Italian is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Linux, Git (GitLab), PostgreSQL, Ansible, Docker, and general DevOps practices.
- Good programming skills in an object-oriented language and relevant web frameworks (preferably Ruby on Rails).
