We are currently looking for a Counsel / Senior Counsel Life Science & Innovation in Lausanne or Neuchatel, Switzerland. Purpose of the role You will be effective in providing strategic guidance to business and key partners across the organization with responsibility for performing a variety of legal matters of varying complexity and leading projects as assigned including day-to-day advice to the company and its business professionals on a range of products (early stage developments in RX, OTC, wellness and healthcare products as well as consumer products), including on a legal regulatory, reputational, contractual and commercial transactions standpoints. Key Responsibilities: • Provide expert legal support to the research and development organization of PMI, PMI Life Science, including the support of planned or ongoing studies (clinical studies, RWE studies, setting up of product registry e.g. to assess tobacco harm reduction). • Support the commercial deployment of Vectura Fertin Pharma (VFP) portfolio of healthcare, wellness and consumer health products. • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including clinical trial, research collaboration, license, distribution, and vendor contracts, while mitigating risks and balancing business interests. • Proactively partner with the business to support projects and matters in particular coming from PMI’s scientific activities in Life Sciences and VFP with a view to mitigate potential liabilities and risks. • Proactively identify and analyze legal issues and risks, drafts key documents, present clear recommendations and ensure legal compliance as it relates to the noted areas of law. • Stay current with legal developments, best practices and benchmarks in the noted areas of law and assist internal clients in implementing policies and procedures in response thereto. • Review of scientific publications and briefs, and material related to scientific research and collaboration. • Conduct legal assessment relevant for various projects in Life Sciences and VFP. • Closely and time cooperate with other PMI legal center of excellences, in particular the Litigation, IP, Product Development, Regulatory, and Commercial Deployment law teams. Desired profile • Juris doctor and licensed to practice law. • At least 7-10 years of legal experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare environment, preferably with a focus on complex R&D matters; in house and/or major law firm. • Ability to work autonomously, in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple, conflicting priorities while managing client expectations. • Ability to maintain an appropriate perspective regardless of the delicacy or pressure of a situation. • Expertise in regulatory frameworks (EMA/FDA) and healthcare compliance (HCP/HCO interaction). • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and mitigate legal risk associated with products under assessment and development. • A passion for collaboration and consensus. • Drives the appropriate level of external benchmarking of best practices. • Maintains a culture and collaborates with a high degree of emphasis on dignity, respect, and inclusion. • Robust interpersonal and writing skills, with the confidence and credibility to act quickly, communicate effectively with diplomacy and civility, and command respect of both internal and external audiences. • Exceptional ability to analyze legal issues, develop legal strategies, and provide innovative solutions • Proven ability to negotiate complex legal documents and contracts with a keen eye for detail.
